April 10th – May 1st, 2009
Opening Reception: Fri, April 10th 7-11PM

Run Rabbit, Run is the first solo exhibition at our gallery from Los Angeles-based artist Brandi Milne. Run Rabbit, Run will feature a new fantastical world of whimsy painted with acrylic on wood panels and a collection of hand-painted antique books that will make up a very special installation.

In addition to Run Rabbit, Run in our main gallery, we will also be presenting the debut Los Angeles solo show from Minneapolis based artist Cherri Wood in our project room along with new works on our ‘Fresh Faces’ wall from Los Angeles based artist Alex Garcia.

There will also be a special ‘Easter Egg Hunt’ presented by Thinkspace and Brandi Milne taking place during the opening reception. Details will follow on this soon, but there will be several unique prizes awarded throughout the evening to patrons lucky enough to find one of the special eggs that will be hidden inside the gallery and out during the opening reception.

Run Rabbit, Run from Brandi Milne:

Born and raised in Anaheim, California, Brandi Milne always had a love for creativity. Growing up, she was happily influenced by the oddities of the 1970's and 80's, vintage Halloween decorations, classic cartoons and an abundance of nostalgic child playthings. A self taught artist and illustrator, Milne's work represents a melding of many very different genres while embracing beauty and aesthetic over message or propaganda. Milne has shown at numerous galleries throughout California including Corey Helford Gallery, CoproNason, Gallery 1988 LA and SF, and La Luz de Jesus.

Brandi also recently wrote and illustrated her first book, “So Good For Little Bunnies”, which was published by Baby Tattoo Books. Plans are already underway for her next book project as well.

Cherri Wood - wake

Also opening on Fri, April 10th in our project room:

trouble, clearly from Cherri Wood

Artist Bio:

Cherri Wood is a young illustrator that is based out of Minnesota. Her watercolor and ink studies explore various areas of the human psyche such as alienation, childhood idiosyncrasies, and general psychosis. Each drawing contains quotes and dialog culled from a plethora of classic plays and short stories helping to narrate each work in its own special way. She is deeply influenced by independent films, graphic novels, comic art, and photography.

In the new series of works for trouble, clearly a variety of methods and mediums were used in the creative process such as staining patterns created with tea, floral material, caramel soda, and various juice mixes along with acrylic paint and india ink.

Wood has shown with Andenken Gallery, Gallery 1988, Project Gallery, O Contemporary/Opus Underground, and also took part in this past year’s GenArt Vanguard Fair that took place during Art Basel in Miami, FL.

Simon Henwood Exhibition Information - VOO-DOO "Hoochie-Coochie and the Creative Spirit" - @ Riflemaker Gallery

MIJN SCHATJE
A short life story made long

As a small child, while other little girls were playing dolls, Marie Blanco Hendrickx AKA Mijn Schatje was making wishes and prayers on tombstones in the woods at her grandparents at le chateau des Ifs in the Paris area. She lived a tale of her own in that castle, and received memories made out of fireworks, treasure huntings, flower tiaras and ducks in the pond. Born to a Spanish father and a Dutch mother, Mijn traveled extensively as a child, all around Europe, then to Africa and Canada. Little Marie's imagination took profit of that friendly and experiences-rich atmosphere to grow exponentially, she was obsessed with fairytales, mermaids, ghosts, carnivals and poetry. In her early years, not knowing much about spelling, she was also convinced Jimi Hendrix was her uncle.

Now at age 25, Mijn resides in Paris. Paying hommage to her imaginary uncle rockstar she got to be an active participant in the music scene, where she created many LP and CD covers for renowned « French Touch » labels like Record Makers (founded by the duo Air) and Ekler'O'Shock. She won international acclaim with her work for TimeRelease (US) and the Taiwanese label Avant Garden. The whole of the '08 collection of the hip Italian fashion houseFornarina is subject to the unique Mijn Schatje style, bringing her enchanted characters to the Milan and Paris fashion weeks and to highstreet fashion stores of Los Angeles, London, Las Vegas, Milan...
Her silenced, fantastic universe is a bizarre and beautiful landscape from which big eyed elf-like little creatures stare at you with their mesmerizing eyes. Both romantic and surreal, her work is the kind of thing dreams are made of, the worlds she creates you can easily get lost in. It is a beguiling combination of innocence and sophistication, a subtle mix of darkness and seduction, which is largely appreciated and propagated by the world's cutting edge press and publishers since 2004

Future projects include a group show with Miss Van and Liz McGrath (Espace GHP, Toulouse), "Urban Superstar" exhibition at the Napoli Art Palazzio Museum, an artist monography, a solo show at Dorothy Circus Gallery (Roma) in early 2010 and a solo show at Corey Helford Gallery (L.A.) in late 2010.

Books: Pink Attitude, Taschen Illustration now 2, The Garden of Eyecandy...
